5 Best Nokia Phones in 2021: Quick Review, Key Specs & Prices

Are you a fan of Nokia phones?

Most of us were once a die-hard fan of Nokia during the evolution of Symbian phones. But as technology improves in the mobile phone manufacturing industry (the development of Android OS), Nokia began to fade out.

Slowly but steadily, Nokia is beginning to get back their mojo which they lost after a long smartphone production sabbatical. They are shaping up to be the next big thing in the mid-range Android phones category.

In fact, Nokia is now among the top 7 android phone manufacturers.

We’ve seen this from their latest products. Nokia is making a claim for the mid-range category. In the last couple of years, we’ve seen some great releases from Nokia, it’s only a matter of time before everything falls into place.Β

That being said, let’s take a look at some of the best Nokia phones in 2021, especially the more recent releases.Β

I’m not a fan of their naming convention, these decimals don’t stick to my brain for long. Let’s see if they stick to yours…

Here we go;

5 Best Nokia Phones in 2021

#1. Nokia 8.3 5G

The Nokia 8.3 series are the first and currently the best Nokia phones to ship with 5G connectivity. It spots Snapdragon’s 765G chipset which stands out as the best in the mid-range SoC category. Nokia has taken things up a notch by adding an amazing camera that takes great photos.

The camera quality on this device isn’t flagship quality, but then you’ve got to appreciate the work put in by Nokia on this device. Both the front and rear cameras feature Zeiss optics for better picture and video quality. The design makes this device stand out even more.Β

At 6.81-inches, you get an IPS display with Full HD resolution. For the I/O, we’ve got a hybrid SIM slot (shared with microSD), the 3.5mm ports, and a fingerprint scanner that doubles as your power button. There’s also a dedicated assistant button to let you get answers on the go.

Though the Nokia 8.3 ships with Android 10, being an Android One device means it’ll be getting 2 years of Android upgrades and 3 years of monthly security updates (according to Nokia). For this period, the Octa-core SoC should keep things firing before starting to slow down.Β

Though the 8.3 was made for the photos, it punches above its heights in other areas. Nokia has done a great job here in terms of software. On the hardware side of things, there’s still room for improvement going forward.

Key Specs of Nokia 8.3

  • Camera – Main: Quad 64MP, 2MP, 2MP, 12MP; Selfie: 24MP
  • RAM – 6GB/8GB
  • Memory – 64GB/128GB
  • Display – 6.81-inch IPS LCD @ 1080 Γ— 2400p
  • OS – Android 10Β

  • CPU – Snapdragon 765G (Octa-core)

Prices of Nokia 8.3Β

The Nokia 8.3 cost approximately $445 globally, Rs. 47,890 in India and about 240,000 naira in Nigeria.

#2. Nokia 8V 5G UWΒ

The Nokia 8V can be called the ‘static’ iteration of the 8.3. They both share many similarities in terms of design, build quality, software, and user experience. A good thing the 8.3 has over the 8V is that it is future proof. But take nothing away from the 8V, in terms of real-world performance, it lives up to expectations.

It’s powered by the Snapdragon 765G Octa-core SoC which comes with a 5G modem. Internal storage on the Nokia 8V is limited to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage but can be expanded via a microSD card. Nokia doesn’t give you options here in terms of storage.

This device from the front feels and looks great. Though it’s a Full HD IPS 6.8-inch screen, the display does look like flagship quality at first glance. I tend to love the color reproduction on this display, not too saturated, and not washed out either, it’s just a balance of both.

The same is true for photos taken on the Nokia 8V. The 64MP camera does a great job in capturing great detail, especially in well-lit surroundings. Low light shots also come out pretty well with the help of software tweaks, the Zeiss optics doesn’t do a good job in this part.

The Nokia 8V 5G is by far one of the best Nokia phones, especially if you are a person that changes their smartphone frequently, it’ll surely get the job done on all fronts. Plus you have a good 4500mAh battery to keep you going.

Key Specs of Nokia 8V

  • Camera – Main: Quad 64MP, 2MP, 2MP, 12MP; Selfie: 24MP
  • RAM – 6GB
  • Memory – 64GB
  • Display – 6.81-inch IPS LCD @ 1080 Γ— 2400p
  • OS – Android 10Β
  • Battery – 4500mAh
  • CPU – Snapdragon 765G (Octa-core)

Price of Nokia 8V

The price of Nokia 8V is approximately $700 and it cost about Rs 51,700 in India and approximately N260,000 in Nigeria.

#3. Nokia 5.3

Deep into the mid-range category, we’ve got the Nokia 5.3 which made it to the list of our best Nokia phones in 2021, an all-rounder. This device tries to check the required boxes in all positions. A nice approach from Nokia, but the thing with trying to please everyone is that you end pleasing no one.Β

This device still retains the signature Nokia design which we’ve been seeing in recent phones by the brand. From the front, a Nokia branding at the bottom just below the 6.55-inch display. Same branding at the back, but this time a vertical write-up is what you get.

You still get that rounded camera array that houses the quad-camera and flash. Speaking of the camera, I hope by now you should know what to expect. It does a pretty good job in daylight shots. There’s also a night mode feature to help you get the best out of your low-light shots.Β

Nokia has done a pretty good job on the software side of things. This is an Android One device based on ‘stock’ Android version 10. Expect all the benefits that come with being Android One. 3 – 6GB RAM is what you get on here with 64GB of internal storage. There’s a dedicated SD card slot if the need arises to expand your storage.

Though we like to see more numbers, we can’t complain about the Nokia 5.3 given the price it’s going for. Most Chinese brands don’t give you a Corning Gorilla 3 protection, Snapdragon 665, above-average camera, and a wonderful software experience at such a price.

Key Specs of Nokia 5.3

  • Camera – Main: Quad 13MP, 2MP, 2MP, 5MP; Selfie: 8MP
  • RAM – 3GB/4GB/6GB
  • Memory – 64GB
  • Display – 6.55-inch IPS LCD @ 720 Γ— 1600p
  • OS – Android 10Β
  • Battery – 4000mAh
  • CPU – Snapdragon 665 (Octa-core)

Price of Nokia 5.3

Nokia 5.3 approximately cost $185 globally and Rs 11,998 in India and about N75,000 in Nigeria.

#4. Nokia 5.4

It’s a good feeling to have a smartphone that’s compact and does so much for less. If you crave that feeling, the Nokia 5.4 is a picturesque example. It comes in a small plastic package with a 6.39-inch display. Not the brightest of displays, but its color reproduction is great.

At HD resolution, you get those nice viewing angles when consuming media. The hole punch cut-out gives it a refreshing look. Speaking of which, selfies from the front camera looks great as compared to other devices in this category.

Rear camera shots also look great with lots of software processing but low-light photos come out with lots of noise. The software doesn’t do a good job at reducing noise.Β

For gamers, the Snapdragon 662 makes gaming a breeze. Overall, it’s an amazing software experience, plus you’re assured of constant updates for over three years.

Key Specs of Nokia 5.4

  • Camera – Main: Quad 48MP, 2MP, 2MP, 5MP; Selfie: 16MP
  • RAM – 4GB/6GB
  • Memory – 64GB/128GB
  • Display – 6.39-inch IPS LCD @ 720 Γ— 1560p
  • OS – Android 10Β
  • Battery – 4000mAh
  • CPU – Snapdragon 662 (Octa-core)

Price of Nokia 5.4

The price of Nokia 5.4 approximately cost $260 globally, Rs13,999 in India and about N98,000 in Nigeria

#5. Nokia 2.4

The Nokia 2.4 is the cheapest in this list of best Nokia phones in 2021 and here is the reason.

Nokia 2.4 is one of Nokia’s MediaTek devices. A little deviation from the norm, but it still gets the job done. The Helio P22 chipset on here doesn’t perform badly. Combining it with Nokia’s close-to-stock Android software makes it even better.

You’ve also got 2GB/3GB RAM storage options, and 64GB worth of onboard storage. There’s also a dedicated SD card slot for micro SD cards. If you’re like me who stores lots of files on my phone, you’ll be needing an SD card for sure.

Moving forward, Nokia gives you a 4500mAh battery with no fast charging. This might be a bummer for many though unless you will be patient enough. In the end, this is a good-looking device, with moderately good specs to back it up. As for the price, when compared to what you’re getting, you can’t complain much.

Key Specs of Nokia 2.4

  • Camera – Main: Dual 13 MP, 2MP; Selfie: Single 5MP
  • RAM – 2GB/3GB
  • Memory – 32GB/64GB
  • Display – 6.5-inch IPS @ 720 Γ— 1600p
  • OS – Android 10
  • Battery – 4500mAh
  • CPU – MediaTek Helio P22 (Octa-core)
