5 Best Huawei Phones in 2021: Reviews, Prices and Best Deals

Let’s talk about the best Huawei phones we have seen so far in the year 2021.

Sometimes Huawei is called the Apple of Asia. Well, if you called them that, you may not be wrong as Huawei has built a powerful reputation that sets them heads and shoulders apart from other android smartphone manufacturers.

Huawei is among the top tech companies contributing to 5G technology. It is a brand that is and has been fueled by constant innovation.

Like Apple, it is the only Android OEM that makes its SoC, camera, and other hardware components in-house. And today, we’ll be looking at the best phones by Huawei in the past year till date.

Though the U.S. ban on Huawei (and other Chinese firms) has affected them in some way or the other, but yet, they’ve continued to soar to greater heights. The biggest hit came after Google decided to remove support for its Play Services on Huawei devices.

But just like a popular slang in Nigeria, we (Huawei) move!

Nothing that’s going to stop Huawei’s creativity and innovation. There’s a new administration now, and we could see a lot of changes in the coming months or years.

Until then, here are the 5 best Huawei phones you need to check;

Best Huawei Phones 2021 – Top 5 Smartphones by Huawei

#1. Huawei Mate 40 Pro

We start with the hardware as this is what makes this device great. Huawei went with an unconventional design scheme on the Mate 40 series. It looks weird but still gets the job done. We can see this from the front of the device which comes with a 6.67-inch 90Hz OLED screen.

It is an edge-to-edge curved display like the old Samsung flagships. The aspect ratio and viewing angles are great but the pill cutout for the front cameras puts a dent on it. Other than that, it’s a great display for me.

The rear of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro also sees the unconventional spherical camera array which, according to Huawei, was inspired by the first photo of the black hole. Speaking of photos, the Mate 40 Pro comes with industry-leading camera hardware – making it rank among the top 3 smartphone cameras when writing.

Still on top ranking, the Kirin 9000 SoC ranks among the top 3 as well for smartphone CPUs. It’s the second smartphone to spot a 5mn processor. The high refresh rate plus a powerful CPU just makes everyday navigation a breeze.

The 12GB RAM and 256GB of UFS storage should be enough for your primary and secondary storage needs. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro also supports fast-charging up to 66W and fast wireless charging up to 55W. These are all great hardware features. But the software still lacks behind.

Huawei App Gallery is still gaining ground against the likes of Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. This might take some time to pull off. EMUI 11 on Android 10 is pretty fast but lacks any form of excitement. You also get the usual bloatware apps with Chinese write-ups. It’s not the best UI experience if I’m to be honest.

But you know what’s the best?

It’s the new AI Air & Eye Gesture features on the Huawei Mate 40 series. This has been a feature right from the days of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Huawei just made it much better. Now you can do more with your phone without physical contact with it.

Huawei Mate 40’s AI Air & Eye Gesture Features Includes

Air wake: This allows you to wake your screen by gesturing to place your hands on the screen for a few seconds.

Air Swipe: Swipe horizontally from photo to photo, or across the app drawer by waving left or right of the display.

Air Scroll: You can scroll up or down by waving your hands up or down the screen especially reading.

Air Press: Got wet hands but want to click on something (play a video or audio), the press gesture will let you do just that.

Air Answering: Similar to the Air Wake gesture, but this time you have to do it with an incoming call.

Eye Control: This feature is still inconsistent but much better than Samsung’s Eye Scroll gesture. You can use this in reducing the volume of incoming calls and scrolling through a webpage by gesturing your eyes up or down.

Want to get the best Huawei phone? then the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is what you need.

There’s also a Mate 40 Pro+ (with 5G) and the Mate 40 which has a slight difference in terms of hardware, but the software remains the same.

#2. Huawei P40 Pro

The ‘P’ in Huawei phones stands for photography! “Experience Visionary Photography” – as Huawei themed the Huawei P40 series.

The P-series have been known to flourish in the ever-growing competitive world of smartphone cameras. And once again, this doesn’t disappoint – the more reason why Huawei is “the Apple of Asia”.

Looking at the Huawei P40 Pro, we’ve got a similar design with the Huawei Mate 40 series from the front. The display is a little bit smaller at 6.58-inches Quad HD and 90Hz.  We still see the usual pill cutout at the top for the huge 32MP selfie camera that doubles as a biometric scanner.

At the back, we’re greeted by a host of 5 cameras that fits in perfectly in the rectangular box, unlike the Mate 40’s spherical design. The Penta setup consists of a 50MP main lens complemented by a 12MP telephoto and 40MP ultrawide lens. The main camera is capable of a 100X zoom. Night and low light shots appear great due to the large sensor and AI capabilities.

Both the rear and front of the P40 Pro are protected by glass and are IP68 water and dust resistant. It comes in three storage variants 128GB, 256GB, and 513GB: all 8GB of RAM. Staying with the internals, it’s a 7nm+ Kirin 990 chipset that supports different 5G bands, and a Mali G-76 GPU.

The 4200mAh battery supports up to 40W fast charging. There’s also support for wireless and reverse wireless charging – all at 27W. The bottom line? This is great design and hardware which also tries to get the job done in other aspects, especially the camera.

Price of Huawei P40 Pro

The price of Huawei P40 Pro is around $1,100.

Huawei P40 Pro will cost approximately 433,950 Nigerian Naira, 6,358 Ghana Cedi, 176,385 Pakistan Rupee, 80,278 Indian Rupee and 120,890 Kenyan Shilling.

#3. Huawei Mate 40 RS (Porsche Design)

Say hello to the much better looking Mate 40. This looks more modern and digital than the original analog design you get with the original Mate 40.

This Huawei Mate 40 RS also comes with similar hardware components but this looks more matured to me though. The only difference here is the lack of a fast UFS 3.0 storage option. Rather you get a much slower 1.0 storage option.

I don’t see this as a deal-breaker and many users might not even notice. The Huawei Mate 40 series is so fast that if proper attention isn’t paid to it, one might not notice these tiny little differences.

The camera array here is much better in design for me as well. The quad cameras and LED flash fit perfectly into the new octagon array. And in terms of quality, expect nothing less than what you get with its ugly sibling.

So, for those who care about the aesthetics of a smartphone, or you just love beauty and structure in general then you might want to go for the Porsche Mate!

Price of Huawei Mate 40 RS (Porsche Design)

The price of Huawei Mate 40 RS (Porsche Design) is approximately $2,714.

Huawei Mate 40 RS (Porsche Design) cost approximately 1,070,673 Nigerian Naira, 198,067.72 Indian Rupee, 435,189.90 Pakistan Rupee, 15,686.92 Ghana Cedi and 298,268.60 Kenyan Shilling.

#4. Huawei Nova 8 Pro 5G

It keeps getting better for Huawei on each product launch. This looks like the best of all best Huawei phones so far!

The all-new Nova 8 series tries to make a statement of intent. No, this is a mid-range device, we can call it an upper midrange. You find some specs you find on the best smartphones here, plus more.

It’s got a unique design as you would expect from Huawei. At the back, you can see the NOVA branding.  And moving up you get the weird but cool camera array. It’s a quad setup with LED flash. The main 64MP camera takes more than a quarter of the whole space.

You also get an 8MP ultrawide lens with double 2MP lenses (macro and depth) all lined up below the main camera. The pill cutout design at the front of the display houses the dual 16MP wide and 32MP ultrawide selfie cameras.

The display is a 6.72-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s got great viewing angles and a nice screen-to-body ratio. All these are brought to life by the 4000mAh battery. There’s also a 7nm powered Kirin 985 SoC doing the heavy lifting in the background.

Huawei announced that the Nova 8 series will be shipping with a 66W fast charger that could get the device to 100 percent in just over 30 minutes. It’ll be starting with the 8GB RAM 128GB option. But you can get the 8GB RAM 256GB variant for just a few extra dollars.

Price of Huawei Nova 8 Pro

Huawei Nova 8 Pro cost $612.

Huawei Nova 8 Pro cost around N235,000 in Nigeria, PKR 91,000 in Pakistan, Rs. 45100 in India and 66,586 KSH in Kenya.

#5. Huawei Nova 7 Pro 5G

Another novel device from Huawei, the Nova 7 Pro 5G! Announced in Q1 of 2020, the Nova 7 Pro packs some of the best smartphone features in a wonderful design. In terms of design, this is one of the best Huawei phones. But can that be said about the performance?

First, let’s check start from the rear where we’ve got the Huawei branding and the quad-camera setup. The camera performs moderately well, especially in well-lit environments. Though it’s a 64MP main lens, it tends to struggle with low-light conditions. The main lens also gets support from the 8MP ultrawide, 8MP telephoto, and 2MP macro lens.

With 8GB RAM, you get 128GB or 256GB of onboard UFS 3.0 storage. The screen is a full HD display at 60Hz. It’s got a hole-punch cutout at the top for the 32MP selfie camera. The display also sits on top of the optical fingerprint sensor.

This is an exciting device except for the software experience. EMUI 10.1 on Android 10 isn’t that exciting. But with a huge 4000mAh battery with support for up to 40W fast charging, you get to enjoy the Huawei Nova 7 Pro to the fullest.

Price of Huawei Nova 7 Pro

Huawei Nova 7 Pro 5G approximately cost $680.

Huawei Nova 7 Pro 5G will cost around N268,000 in Nigeria, 49,626.40 Indian Rupee, 3,930.40 Ghana Cedi, 109,038 Pakistan Rupee and 74,732 Kenyan Shilling.
